ABSTRACT

Computed tomographic colonography (CTC) is a rapidly developing method that is gaining acceptance for colorectal screening for polyps and masses. Because of variable sensitivities reported for CTC, computer-aided detection and diagnosis (CAD) has been developed to help readers, especially novice readers, and increase the test sensitivity. ere are two abbreviations: CADe (computer-aided detection), which refers to the software that looks for only polyp candidates without any histological analysis, and CADx (computer-aided diagnosis), which dierentiates benign from malignant lesions (Suzuki and Dachman, 2011). We discuss only CADe in this chapter.
