ABSTRACT

Even after 61 years of independence and reforms, under nutrition continues to remain a chronic public health problem in India. According to the most recent National Family and Health Survey (NFHS-3) 2005-06 [1], about 45% children less than 3 years of age are stunted (low weight-for-height) and 40% are underweight (low weight-for-age). Marginal improvement in nutritional status of children between NFHS-3 and NFHS-2 conducted in 1998-99 [2] has been disappointing.
