ABSTRACT

As mobile phones become more ubiquitous, their use for various communication modes continues to increase. The mobile is the most popularly owned electronic gadget (Pew Internet andAmerican Life Project, 2011). Ownership and use are most prevalent in young people (Cotten, 2009, Pew Internet and Life Project, 2011). A survey of American teens (12-17 year olds) showed that 37% owned a smart phone (Pew Research Internet Project, 2013). Predictions from Emarketer for 2014 identified the mobile phone rate as being highest in the 17-24 year old age group followed closely by the 12-17 year old age group at 87% (Emarketer, 2013).
