Where is the platform? Wrong side door release at train stations

On modern trains, passenger doors must be operated by the guard or driver before passengers can board or alight. Incidents can occur if the doors are operated where there is no platform for passengers to disembark onto. This may be because the train is not in a station, because the doors on the wrong side of the train are opened at a station or because doors over the end of the platform are operated.
