ABSTRACT
There are two forms of stoma, namely a loop and end stoma. Closure of end stomas will follow the general principles of resection and anastomosis, and are covered elsewhere in this text. This chapter will concentrate on closure of a loop stoma. Loop colostomy is now an uncommon stoma. Illustrations in this chapter show closure of loop ileostomy, but the technique for closure of loop colostomy is the same, although the author would strongly recommend that stapled closure be avoided in this setting.
