ABSTRACT

Biological batch processes have been gaining increasing interest from both industries as well as academia as they are found to be promising in providing alternative technologies which are greener and safer for the manufacture of several industrial grade products including fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, polymers etc. However, maintaining consistent product qualities with minimum batch to batch variation, while ensuring the sterile, safe, and optimal conditions of a process is a daunting task. Therefore, it is essential to develop efficient online process monitoring methodologies. The presence of significant nonlinearities, complex growth dynamics of microorganisms of biological batch processes makes the task of online monitoring more complicated.
