ABSTRACT
Lightning flashover of Chinese power grid is rising in recent years, and the reasons could be attributed to: The increase of lightning activities. According to the data of lightning monitoring network, lightning ground flash density increased significantly from 2005 in many regions of China. The development of new power grid, the increased length of transmission lines, the increased height of towers and easily be stroke by lightning. Due to lack of understanding of the activities and distribution of lightning, the lightning protection measures are less effective. Therefore, with the abnormal climate change and the rapid development of today’s power grid, it’s very urgent to fully grasp the distribution characteristics and regular patterns of lightning.
