ABSTRACT

The author chooses the family capital in the possession of professional football players. It mainly refers to parents’ social and economic status, which can be specified as education, career, income, gender, race or the total sum of the above categories. Usually, it is used to represent the individuals’ objective status and position. Although the difference in social and economic status cannot represent the difference is social class, the correlation is quite remarkable. In other words, in social class system, the status of the social class represents wealth, social class, power, identity and cultural difference, etc. As a result, the author mainly

1 INTRODUCTION

In 1992, the “14th Session of CPC Conference” clarified that the target economic system reform mode in China was socialist market economic system. In order to respond to the call of national policy, the football branch in the sports area took the initiatives to carry out marketization reform. At the initial period of reform, football in China enjoyed unprecedented development. However, with the deepening of football reform, more and more problems have appeared, such as the inadequacy of football clubs’ backup force, difficulty in student enrollment in children’s sports schools, hard lives after athletes’ retirement and so on. Moreover, the gradual shrinkage of football backup talents thereby caused has aroused domestic in-depth studies on football players’ family capital, aiming to reveal professional football players’ source, their parents’ social class, economic & social status and other profound factors from the perspective of the family capital possessed by the players, and make some helpful explorations for the purpose of providing the young football players’ social and family background for talent selection and cultivation, and further enriching the theoretical researches in the aspects of social capital, social mobility, social class division and so on in the area of sport sociology.
