ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This chapter begins by describing the history of human interaction with transportation, invasive species, and equipment, thereby providing some information for the nonscientist reader on the scope of the invasive species dilemma. The issue of aquatic invasive species and pests is avery public one, and hopefully, this approach is of some value to areader whose larger interests might be general natural resource issues, environmental public policy, water supply concerns, and budget processes related peripherally to aquatic invasive species and pests. As the chapter progresses, more technical discussion is brought forward from other disciplines, examples, and situations.
