ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Lake Tahoe is designated a water of extraordinary ecological or aesthetic value. The ongoing decline in Lake Tahoe’s water quality is facilitating colonization and expansion of aquatic invasivespecies (AIS). Action plans set in place provide guidance that delineates appropriate, science-based regulation and monitoring that expressly deals with prevention and management of AIS. Strategic controlplans include processes such as subjecting all watercraft inspection and/or decontamination prior to launching in Lake Tahoe. Prevention plans include implementation of legislation, increased certi‘cationdemand, and increasing awareness and training. Many facets of control and prevention have been implemented and analyzed. Lessons learned show aneed for expanded outreach, public relations, and better development of decontamination procedures and data analysis. The effort has many substantive accomplishments to its credit and plans for many more.
