The paper analyzes the effectiveness of new methods for assessing the source material in breeding. The greatest attention is paid to methods of electrophoresis of proteins and protein markers, as well as methods of molecular genetic marking RFLP and PCR based on the use of DNA. Experimental data of the electrophoretic analysis of seed storage proteins in the selection samples of red clover and Galega orientalis are given. It was found that breeding material of red clover and Galega orientalis created in the Belorussian State Agricultural Academy is characterized by genetic variability. Variety samples BSAA-3, SL-38, TOS-early, BSAA-4, BSAA-2 and variety TOS-870 of the red clover are characterized by the greatest variability of polypeptide spectrum. In Galega orientalis differences of polypeptide spectrum were observed in variety samples SEG-1a, SEG-2, SEG-3 and BSAA-3. The obtained results will be used for the selection of genotypes in the breeding process to create patentable varieties characterized by novelty and distinguishability.
