ABSTRACT

The chapter presents a new approach for the assessment of the color gamut of printing system using the indicator of the volume of the color gamut body. Experiment demonstrated high correlation between volume of the color gamut body and surface roughness of materials for printing. Color gamut of printing is one of the most important characteristics of the conclusions drawn about the quality of the print impression. Color gamut is assessed using scales as a test object containing the control elements applied to the printed material paint. Color system CIELab is possible to assess color gamut and their comparison for different chromatogenic systems. The proposed method for calculating the volume of the color gamut body is based on the approximation of the body surface by triangulation. Surface of color gamut body represent the union of triangles forming a closed surface that is limited by the range of colors reproducible printing system on the test material.
