ABSTRACT

In view of the medium parameters detection, the dynamic characteristics were researched on ultrasonic propagation in the inhomogeneous media. Based on the attenuation expression of ultrasonic propagation, the ultrasonic attenuation characteristics were analyzed under the influence of media parameters. According to the simulation curve of attenuation coefficient, it was concluded that the greater the medium density is, the smaller attenuation becomes; the larger particle size is, the greater attenuation becomes. The inhomogeneous media parameters have an important effect on the attenuation characteristics. The sound attenuation can be divided into diffusion, viscous, thermal conductivity and scattering attenuation. Viscous attenuation is caused by the sonic velocity gradient owing to the effect of viscosity of the media, resulting in loss of internal friction between the media. Scattering attenuation is due to the unevenness of media, resulting in slurry interface having much small different acoustic impedance which scatters in different directions.
