ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the study of flow resistance of traditional straight type three-way catalytic converter and by the method that combined with numerical simulation and experiment, the flow resistance of a new type of three-way catalytic converter structure using metal carrier was investigated. It describes numerical simulation of traditional straight type three way catalytic device (TWC) and a new type of by-pass TWC is proposed based on the finite volume method, and then experimental study is set up to make a comparison. This demonstrates the possibility of applying numerical simulation for analyzing the flow resistance of TWC. During measurement process in experiment, due to some reasons such as the accuracy of instrument, lack of measurement method and undulation of experimental environment, there must a certain difference between measured result and real result.
