ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an automatic crack recognition system that finds cracks based on an image processing technique to overcome the current method's dependence on human senses. It provides an automatic edge crack recognition system that finds visible edge cracks using an image processing method via a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) camera. The occurrence of edge cracks on the sheared hole is judged from the final image extracted in the window. In order to capture the test images, a webcam with a resolution of 300,000 pixels is used as the CCD camera. In the image processing and control dialog box, we can modify and change the critical values used in the Gaussian filter and Canny edge detector and the r value denoting the criterion for edge crack occurrence. The chapter discusses a hole expansion test system that uses a pattern recognition technique with image processing to improve the reliability of the conical-punch hole expansion test results.
