ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the article used TM image with 30m resolution as source data to analyze the land use and urban transition, the results were affected by image resolution and high resolution data can increase the precision of the results. The article interpreted the land use cover of the Yangtze River Delta and the urban transition was analyzed with the results data. According to the results, urban area sprawled dramatically by economic and social development. In order to realize a healthy and sustainable development, a planned use of land should be built and basic land use pattern should be supplied. Taking the Yangtze River Delta as an example, the article interpreted the urban transition process in the year 2000s, and 2010s based on TM image, which provides useful information for scientific and sustainable land planning. The land use was classified by supervised classification method and the results were amended by visual calibration.
