ABSTRACT

With the fast development of femtosecond pulse technology, ultra-short pulses have attracted a great deal of attention (Kane & Squier 1995, Fork et al. 1987). In practical applications, the precise pulse parameters are wanted, e.g., in the scheme of compressing or broadening pulses, the chirp of pulses introduced by material dispersion is needed. Another example is an achromatic phase matching device by which intensity and quality of second harmonic pulses can be greatly increased. In this device, it is necessary to precisely control pulse front tilting introduced by angular elements to reach pulse front matching and the computation of pulse front tilting is important. So Many researchers devoted themselves to study trans - formation and propagation of pulses. Qi & Lv (2006), Ji & Lv (2001) & Qi & Lv (2007) studied propagation and transformation of pulses in some special case. Bor et al. (1993) & Akturk et al. (2004) obtained the relation of angular dispersion and pulse front tilting when pulses pass by angular elements. But in this case, width and chirp of pulse will be changed, too. In this work, by ray-pulse matrix proposed by Kostebauder (1990), transformation of pulse front tilting pulses passed by free space and angular elements is studied.
