ABSTRACT

Since the reform and opening up, China’s economy has achieved rapid growth and attracted worldwide attention with an average annual growth rate of 9.1%, which is far higher than the average level of the world’s major developed countries. However, China’s high economic growth is accompanied with the rapid growth of energy consumption. According to statistics, the volume of China’s energy consumption has been increased from 54.11 million tons of standard coal in 1953 to 3.61732 billion tons of standard coal in 2012, showing a sustaining growth trend as a whole. At the same time, the total volume of China’s energy consumption has exceeded that of energy production since 1992, with the disparity being expanded year by year. The energy shortage has become the bottleneck of China’s economic growth.
