ABSTRACT
Contact problem has always been one of the most challenging problems in solid mechanics. For solids with large characteristic dimensions, the volume ratios of surface region to the bulk material is small, the effect of surface stress then can be neglected because of its relatively tiny contribution. Owing to the increasing ratio of surface-tobulk volume, the effect of surface stress has been considered as one of the major factors contributing to the exceptional behaviors at nanoscale.
