ABSTRACT

According to the code for design of concrete slab in the highway, the thickness of concrete slab in seasonal regions is calculated by the same method as that in non-cold regions. Namely, the basis for design is that fatigue break does not come into being under the vehicle loads and temperature gradient while the check computation standard is that limit break does not come into being under the heaviest axis load and the maximum value of temperature gradient. But, it is necessary that the total thickness of road in the cold regions is more than the minimum value determined in a table in accordance with the local frozen depth. Even so, the phenomena of road slab destruction take place not only in highway but also in express way [1]. In the early 1980s, it was known that frost heave is one of reasons for frost damage of the road and that uneven frost heave of roadbed caused the frost damage of the road [2]. The reported research findings were involved in frost damage, the nature of frost heave of the soil, mechanical behavior and measurement preventing the road from frost damage in the way of eliminating the factor causing the frost heave of soil [3-7].
