Compared with numerical simulation technology for vertical wells, the numerical simulation of horizontal wells, especially the stage fractured horizontal wells, have more stringent requirements on spatial grid modeling. Refinement of the grids in the near-well zones, especially in the zones near the horizontal section, is required to accurately characterize the fluid flow properties and pressure distribution of the near-well zones in the horizontal wells. At present, the researchers in the academic field of petroleum engineering and from various research institutes are mainly using Cartesian grid and corner-point grid refinement method to deal with the issues related to grid modeling of horizontal wells, which in conjunction with the sectional processing technology for horizontal wells can meet the demands of numerical simulation and study of conventional reservoirs. With the worldwide development of production technologies of low-ermeability hydrocarbon reservoirs and unconventional gas reservoirs, the staged fracturing technology for horizontal wells has been widely used. However, the conventional grid refinement technology has greater restrictions in characterizing
