ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: On August 3, 2014, an earthquake occurred in Ludian County, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province of China. This earthquake caused a large number of landslides. In order to carry out spatial distribution analyses of the coseismic and pre-earthquake landslides, the 44.13 km2 area at the junction of Ludian, Qiaojia and Huize County along the Niulanjiang is selected as the study area. By visual interpretation of pre-earthquake images on Google Earth and 0.2 m resolution coseismic aerial photographs of the area, 284 pre-earthquake landslides and 1053 earthquake-induced landslides were recognized and mapped. Then with the aid of 10 m × 10 m resolution DEM and the GIS platform, several impact factors, such as elevation, slope aspect, earthquake intensity, and distance from drainages are used to analyze the spatial distribution of the coseismic and pre-earthquake landslides by employing two indexes include LAP (Landslide Area Percentage) and LND (Landslide Number Density).
