ABSTRACT
Direct chromosome preparation from fi sh embryos and larvae follows the basic protocol described by Kligerman and Bloom (1977). In short, whole eggs, embryos or larvae are directly incubated in aquarium water with colchicine, treated with a hypotonic solution, to allow the swelling of the cells. After fi xation a cell suspension is prepared from each single embryo/egg and dropped onto clean slides.
