Introduction

The genetic potential of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and its domestication for the last centuries are the reasons for the continuous success of this species in aquaculture. Carp can be raised in freshwater and brackish water (Garg 1996), show omnivorous feeding behavior and are extremely tolerant to many environmental conditions including oxygen concentrations and temperature.
