ABSTRACT

The coke wastewater is one of the most toxic sources, due to the high concentration of various phenolic compounds. In this study, two bacterial strains isolated from soil built a promising group since they were able to biodegrade several phenolic compounds in the coke wastewater. Pseudomonas Sp. C1 could efficiently remove the high concentration of phenol and p-cresol in the 12 hours while Acinetobacter sp. C2 showed the wide versatility to degrade the 4-dichlorophenol, p-cresol, indole, aniline and phenol in low initial concentrations. The two bacteria strains group performed much more powerful than the individual strain when treating the phenols mixture. The total phenols by the group were 98.1% removed at 18 hours, while the removal rates of COD and ammonia are 70.2% 45.3% in 48 hours, respectively. According to the GC/MS results, the phenol, p-cresol, indole, 4-dichrolophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol were basically removed after 48 hours.
