ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The present paper looks at Submerged FloatingTube Bridge (SFTB) configurations anchored to the seabed by groups of tethers and their response characteristics. Swell wave loads are applied on the SFTBs and the structural response is given for different cross sectional shapes in the form of box and twin tube cross sections and different number of tether groups. Both simplified modal response analyses and time-domain finite element analyses are carried out. The main findings are; 1) the added mass in vertical mode results in inertia loads being in the range 2-5 times higher for the box cross section compared to the twin tube cross section, 2) the tether stiffness needs to be adjusted to avoid large heave motions of the SFTB.
