ABSTRACT
Database course is a professional basic course of computer specialty and the preferred course which is involved in information processing in many professional. The course requires students to master the basic principles, concepts of database system and application technology of the general database system. It helps the students lay a solid foundation for future work. Now colleges want to transform to the applied universities. It is necessary to pay attention to the cultivation of students’ ability in order to bring up applied talents. A database course mainly cultivates the students’ ability of the following aspects: data abstraction and modeling ability; analysis and design ability; data system development ability; database configuration and management ability; innovation ability. In teaching practice, teachers form the general process of database theory teaching: the establishment of speculative knowledge-- the explanation of speculative knowledge. The concepts and definitions in the teaching material are often directly showed in a single text. It not only causes that students’ enthusiasm is not high to accept new knowledge, and the learning concept thinking is not smooth, and the use is not flexible, but also can’t improve the comprehensive ability of students. It is concluded that it mainly exists the following problems in the teaching of database course:
Problem1: The difficult point of database principle is that it is very abstract. Students tend to feel inadequate, especially when studying about the chapters of the relational model and normal form.
