ABSTRACT

African hair is very delicate and therefore highly susceptible to mechanical, physical, and chemical damage.

Diuse or patchy alopecia due to hair breakage is a common disease in women. Patients oen do not correlate the hair problem with their styling procedures and either complain of alopecia or that their hair does not grow long. Scalp dermoscopy reveals a preserved honeycomb pattern and regularly distributed pinpoint white dots. e hair density in aected scalp areas is not reduced as compared with unaected areas. Broken hairs may be dicult to detect. Diagnosis is very easy and fast by performing dermoscopy on the hairs obtained via the tug test. ese show longitudinal ssuring, knots, and brush-like ends due to trichorrhexis nodosa.
