ABSTRACT

Nail plate surface abnormalities are better seen with polarized instruments. Psoriatic pits are large and irregular and dermoscopy shows the presence of scales around and within the pits.

Dermoscopy enables better visualization of the erythematous border that characterizes psoriatic onycholysis. Splinter hemorrhages appear as single or multiple red-brown linear or lamentous lines localized in the distal nail bed. Enlargement of the distal nail bed capillaries can also be seen.
