ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT This chapter aims to provide an overview of insular power system structures and operational requirements. First, a general evaluation of insular power systems is realized together with an analysis of sample insular grid structures. Then, the challenges and opportunities of insular grids are discussed also considering possible future developments in technology and applications to overcome challenges and to promote opportunities. Finally, the chapter is summarized with concluding remarks.
