ABSTRACT

For unknown reasons, babies with CF are shorter than average at birth. Several studies have demonstrated reduced birth length in CF; in a group of 139 children with CF,

mean birth length standard deviation score (SDS) was −0.5 (±0.13) in girls and −0.3 (±0.14) in boys, and birth weight SDS was −0.83 (±0.13) in girls and −0.44 (±0.13) in boys.1 A study in Italy also found that the parents of children with CF were short for the population and target heights for their CF-aected children were shorter than average,2 although this nding was not reproduced in a study in a US population.3
