ABSTRACT

Referral for lung transplant assessment, and subsequent listing, should be considered at an early stage both by the referring CF center and by the transplant team.3-6 Despite an increase in the availability of treatment, there is still limited donor availability in comparison with the number of people who could potentially benet from treatment. ere is therefore an ethical responsibility to respect altruistic gis from donors and balance the medical resource requirements of one potential recipient against others in their society so that people receiving transplants have the most realistic prospects of good long-term outcomes. e criteria for the selection of lung transplant candidates are discussed in this chapter.
