ABSTRACT

At present, the method of direct strength about component buckling analysis hasn’t spread. The effective section analysis method is the main analysis method of design, so it is a basis of portal steel structure design to establish a clear concept of effective section and correctly calculate the effective section and geometric parameters of section. The following points of effective section can be easily obtained from the introduction of above concept:

1 INTRODUCTION

After the design principle of steel structure course completion, civil engineering specialty in our university sets the curriculum of steel structure design for students majoring in direction of housing construction engineering as a required professional course, 2 credits with 32 class hours. The curriculum focusses on the design of steel roof truss, the light portal frame structure, multi high-rise steel frame structure and space grid structure. Among them, the design of light portal frame structure is generally taught eight class hours, including three major parts of the structure type and layout, steel frame design and envelope structure design. Of these, the related concepts and calculation of portal frame beam-column stability design is an important and difficult content in the course’s teaching, where the calculation formula is complex and the corresponding concept and calculation are various. So, how to teach well is a very critical factor for the student to master the portal frame structure design.
