ABSTRACT
Pressures from the knowledge-based economy and university-industry collaboration are transforming the traditional role of universities. This chapter explores the use of a university-industry collaboration approach and presents an action plan for establishing a manufacturing research center at The University of the West Indies (UWI) in Trinidad and Tobago. Under the auspices of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the University, the center is to foster the universityindustry collaboration and bring synergy of research outputs within the department and across the faculty of engineering and other faculties of the university.
