Under the resonance condition, Eloc is strongly enhanced with respect to the far field. This huge increase in the local field around
metal nanoparticles (or metal nanostructures, in a more general
point of view) is the basis for the sensing applications, which will
be described in Sections 7.3 and 7.4.
