ABSTRACT

The simulation of real world passenger tyre wear behavior is still a challenge, even after several decades of intensive research and development work. One of the main problems is that wear severity of a laboratory test is usually much higher than the wear on a passenger car tyre. This means the standard test simulate severe wear which might correlate to “extreme” driving conditions, like emergency braking, extreme cornering and accelerating. But such events happen relatively rarely during average driving and so the standard test methods have little to no correlation to the real world. The standard tests are of a high severity to enable relatively quick test results, usually in not more than a few hours.
