ABSTRACT

Utilization of polymers, especially in sensitive areas like medicine (Lendlein, Behl, Hiebl, & Wischke 2010) and aerospace engineering (Liu, Du, Liu, & Leng 2014) is increasing very quickly. Tailored with respect to specific applications, the performance of polymeric materials has to be controlled by several sets of characteristics. For instance, they have to fulfill mechanical functions, good stability and enough strength. However, progresses in technology demand more complex necessities. For example an on-demand drug delivery system (Meng & Li 2013) or a reopening stent for closed blood vessels (Yakacki, Shandas, Lanning, Rech, Eckstein, & Gall 2007) require another novel functionality which is called Shape-Memory Effect (SME).
