A micro-mechanical model for non-linear inelastic behavior of double network hydrogels

Tough hydrogels in general and DN hydrogels in particular are relatively new materials. Thus, there are very few mostly phenomenological models describing their behavior. A special challenge here is to simulate the inelastic response of DN hydrogels, which appears to be very important for biomedical applications. The micro-structural background of this behavior is very poor understood so far.
