ABSTRACT

The aim of this work is to characterize mechanical properties of Epoxy/Single wall carbon nanotubes under nanoindentation using representative volume element method. A three-dimensional Representative Volume Element (RVE) in the tensile test is simulated and stress-strain curve of nanocomposite obtained. Then by using this stress-strain curve, the nanoindentation process of nanocomposite is carried out to evaluate its’ elastic modulus and hardness as an isotropic material. Moreover, the relative influences of indenter geometry, friction coefficient as well as volume percentages of the SWCNTs on the response of elastic modulus and hardness are investigated.
