ABSTRACT

In view of the modern design based on the industrial production system, the standardization of industrial production and other causes, the modern design is necessary to rely on the “accuracy” and digitalization so as to comply with the molded and mass production mode, it is also the important condition of the design modernization. Is the accuracy and digitalization of the design is the unique product of the industrial production system? The answer is no. As early as in the Spring and Autumn Period, the design and fabrication of Chinese traditional farm tools were involved in the “accuracy” concept, and also defined the specific sizes of the farm tools. As described in the Kao Gong Ji, “during the production of hand-driven plows, the plow is composed of three parts, namely the longer part of one “chi”(one “chi” equal to 23 cm) and one “cun”(10 “cun” = 1 “chi”), the straight middle part of “chi” and three “cun” as well as the upper of two “chi” and two “cun” … six “chi” and six “cun”. The total length of the hand-driven plow is the sum of above three parts; this can be proved by the “the longer part of the plow is one “chi” and one “cun” in the WakanSansaiZue. In addition, there is a description of the length of the plough in the Agricultural Book, “The dimension of the plow is 9 “chi”, while the length of the plough tip is the

China is the country with a long agricultural civilization; however, with the continuously advancement of the industrial civilization, the agricultural culture with the traditional manual work as the priority declines and the manual cultivation fades away. It is considered that the vanishing of agriculture civilization is the result of the natural selection, and the backward production mode will be bound to be replaced. But in the face of the traditional culture accumulation for several thousand years, whether we should throw the pure material progress to seek the approaches to help build our unique design system from the perspective of culture, especially from the development of the design culture?
