ABSTRACT

Since 2009, The Delight of Chinese Character Festival is designedas a ticketed exhibition and, normally, the greatest challenge, for an exhibition venue not located in an art gallery or museum, is to estimate the number of visitors that would buy tickets-It was also the first attempt of the Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Kaohsiung City Government to organize such an exhibition show in cooperation with a folk and academic body. For this reason, it was an important experience for the curation team in 2010 to integrate interactive technology with the Chinese character culture. 1 BACKGROUND OF “THE DELIGHT OF CHINESE CHARACTER”

In the 1970s, Kaohsiung Harbour District, neighboring the marine outfall of Love River, accommodated numerous warehouses and, along with the changing times, those warehouse clusters gradually disappeared when the transport of goods gradually changed from its staple merchandise to life products and electronic products. Until 2000, people’s attention had been attracted to the complete warehouse cluster in Kaohsiung, once the center of Taisugar Warehouse Cluster, after many people gathered at the place near the Love River for National Day pyrotechnics show. In 2001, The Pier-2 Art Center, organised by artists, promoted it as a base for the southern human art and culture development. In 2006, the site, after becoming the charge of the Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Kaohsiung City Government, has gradually become the exhibition and show venue for art and design, echoing the concept of recycling abandoned spaces in many cities and towns all over the world, as well as the development of cultural creative activities.
