ABSTRACT

Chinese book-binding art, evolved into threadbinding, is the most progressive and thread-binding is also the most aesthetic from the view of art (Chen, G.Q. 1957). The binding form of threadbound books is dividing the cover into two pieces up and down, which is respectively put in front of and on the back of books. By drilling and threading, the stitching line shuttles between the cover and back of the books, which finally finishes the binding of the books. Thread-binding, originated from the Two Song Dynasty and thrived in the Ming and Qing Dynasty, takes the essence to the dregs from Chinese traditional scroll, accordion binding, wrapped-ridge binding, butterfly-fold binding and the blessed one clip outfit and other forms. Thread-binding gets distinct Chinese characteristics, which are the best binding form in the traditional book-binding.
