ABSTRACT

CHEN and LONDEE as the two longstanding leaders in Chinese style apparel in the international markets; the example of lifelong learning by Lee Chun-Chih, the designer for Greenleaf Fashion Center (a brand name since the 1960s) who call herself “pattern maker of all times”; the subtle grace of designs from Nadia Lin, a free-spirit in the fashion industry who emerged in the 1980s as a result of her personal experience; the decades of hard work by Chang Chen, a later comer but a rising star in the Taiwanese fashion industry since 2000. This paper examines the quality and prices of their works and provides directions for consumers to choose the fashion brands well-suitable to them. It also presents how fashion brand designers in Taiwan inherit the heritage of the graceful cheongsam culture. The four sections below refer to the beautiful cheongsams from five designers as examples of how Taiwanese designers mix

1 INTRODUCTION

Any historical and cultural assets are too valuable to put a price tag on. Taiwan preserves the legacy of the cheongsam-making industry over the past century. Cheongsam was seen everywhere in the 1940s∼1960s. The market size shrank later on but the masters specialized in hand-sewn cheongsam and few fashion designs dedicated to the elegance Asian style became the pioneers of designer brands. They continued to drive the economy of aesthetics. In general, the continuation and development of cheongsams in Taiwan owes itself to the heritage and innovation of designer brands to the cheongsam culture.
