ABSTRACT
As digital imagery becomes more commonplace and of higher quality, there is the need to manipulate more and more data. Thus image compression is needed to reduce the necessary storage and bandwidth requirements [1]. During the past decade, a variety of image compression methods have been proposed [2]. Among them, one of the most popular techniques is wavelet transform, which has the ability to analyze signals in different directions and scales [3].
