ABSTRACT

Death is not the end of life. At a macroscopic level, a dead animal would seem to be an end or stopping point, as the creature has stopped moving, breathing, playing, and mating-all of the outward signs of life are gone. The carrion is no longer a viable host for the parasites, pathogens, or symbionts that are dependent on the living animal host for sustenance, and so these organisms either die or disperse to other living individuals.
