The increasing use of herbs for medicinal purpose in recent years leads to the requirement for assessing their quality to assist international trading of herbal products. Herbs are complex products with variable contents, depending on sources and season for their harvesting. The analytical issue for assessing the quality of herbal medicine is addressed in this chapter and current practices using ngerprinting are reviewed in Section 12.1.1.
