ABSTRACT

This chapter proposes the tracking of the information quality evolution through the system, as a possible solution to evaluate the information proposed to the end user. It defines data and information quality using as support the research literature from three different domains of application, such as, management information systems (MIS), Web information systems (WIS), and information fusion systems (IFS). The chapter presents the state of the art of data and information quality evaluation. It also presents data and information notions in the case of an IFS and explores how their semantic characteristics influence the quality definition and evaluation. The chapter provides a possible solution for modeling the influence of input and output processing module on the quality. As a result, the output quality can be determined based on the input information and its quality. The chapter also provides the evaluation of the entire IFS making use of the local quality.
