ABSTRACT

The importance of renewable energy has become more and more important in the last couple of decades or so mainly because of the air pollution caused by fossil-based fuels. A recently patented WEC device was invented and tested at the model scale in a small wave tank, see e.g., Carter and Ertekin (2011), Carter (2013) and Carter and Ertekin (2014). This work is a feasibility design study and it is on a possible application of this device in the Hawaiian Islands. In this paper, we study the problems related to determining the most suitable installation site, the determination of the suitable dimensions for the environmental conditions at the site, the calculation of available power, and the final structural calculations that result in the preliminary design. For more details, see Gambacciani (2014).
