ABSTRACT

Geometrical and material specifications of the considered sandwich panel variants, panel’s interaction with the supporting structure and relevant data regarding the axle loads and tire prints of the loaded vehicles, were all predefined by the Uljanik Shipyard. Within the framework of this case study Bonum consulting company was tasked with identification of the preferred layout for lamination of the top and bottom skins of the considered sandwich panel variants, with respect to the structural evaluation based on structural response to various feasible load cases obtained by the direct calculations based on first principles, i.e. Finite Element Method (FEM) analyses. In addition, evaluation of the preferred variant with two different foam core materials was performed, along with the check of compliance with the relevant requirements of the Bureau Veritas classification society (BV) rules.
