ABSTRACT
Introduction The acquisition, processing, and assimilation of food are fundamental functions in all animals. Feeding provides organisms with the building blocks and energy required for homeostasis, growth, reproduction, and development and as such could be considered the most essential of all physiological functions. Despite this, our knowledge of feeding and the related processes of digestion and nutrient absorption in the hagshes is surprisingly poor.
